Abstract. The application of the archaeology of social phenomena—via the contextual valuation method—to the Argaric mortuary record provides evidence on past economic fluctuations and oscillations of social inequality, conflict, and available resources. Parameters measuring such social phenomena allow us to isolate the essential factors behind Argaric collapse, including an acute shortage of resources, a deep economic crisis, and a runaway social conflict.
