Abstract
This is the third volume in a series of synthesizing and updated studies on the ceramic traditions identified between the 1960s and 1980s for the middle Ucayali River basin in the Upper Amazon region of Peru. The Hupa-Iya complex constitutes a second sequence of occupation in the region, corresponding to the Early Amazonian Jungle Development period in Peru. It is characterized by highly elaborate incised and molded pottery of the Barrancoide tradition, the consumption of bitter cassava, textile production, and open settlements with larger populations.
