Este estudio presenta los resultados de análisis pXRF y estilísticos de un ajuar funerario hallado recientemente en el yacimiento arqueológico El Caño, Panamá. El objetivo es evaluar el origen del metal en relación con las tradiciones orfebres regionales. Los resultados muestran una notable homogeneidad estilística y bajas inclusiones de plata en el oro nativo, lo que respalda un origen local. No obstante, se identificó un valor atípico que, por su química y estilo, puede vincularse a la tradición Quimbaya Temprano. Los datos evidencian un importante centro de producción de objetos de metal en Coclé, destinado a satisfacer la gran demanda interna existente, que además, y de manera puntual, adquiría objetos foráneos.

Abstract

This study presents the results of pXRF and stylistic analyses of grave goods recently found at the El Caño archaeological site in Panama. The aim is to assess the origin of the metal in relation to regional goldworking traditions. The results show remarkable stylistic homogeneity and low silver inclusions in the native gold, supporting a local origin. However, an outlier was identified that, due to its chemistry and style, can be linked to the Early Quimbaya tradition. The data show an important center of metal object production at Coclé, intended to meet the high domestic demand, which also occasionally acquired foreign objects.
