Abstract. The presence of deities in Western Mexican shaft tombs is proposed through the first iconographic interpretation of hollow figurines deposited as offerings in the tombs, particularly those of the Bolaños culture. The creators of the shaft tomb tradition may have held a worldview and a cosmogony distinct from those of Mesoamerica.
